1. Telomerase Activation and Aging
This study evaluated the effectiveness of cycloastragenol, an active ingredient in Regenorex™, on telomerase activity and telomere length. The authors confirmed that cycloastragenol upregulates telomerase activity in two different human cell lines, and concluded that cycloastragenol-based neutraceuticals inhibit and delay the onset of cellular senescence.
Cellular senescence as a result of shortened telomeres is cited in the study as widely recognized as being the "main mechanism for cellular aging and for the lack of cellular functions associated with aging." Regenorex™ incorporates cycloastragenol and a number of other astragalosides intended to upregulate telomerase activity, which as indicated by this study is an effective technique for delaying cellular senescence and slowing the aging process in laboratory cell lines.
A full evaluation of the effectiveness of Regenorex™ on slowing human aging in vivo is technically impossible due to the need to study identical human beings over long periods of time in a controlled environment. As a result, it is unlikely that the FDA will ever be able to certify cycloastragenol or other telomerase up-regulators as a drug to fight aging or the diseases of aging. However, this study provides clear evidence that at a cellular level the Regenorex™ formula is capable of delaying the basic mechanisms of cellular aging.
2. Antioxidants and Aging
In this study, researchers found that increased oxidative stress accelerates telomeres shortening of human fibroblasts taken from 16 individuals, confirming earlier results from in vitro studies. This study indicates that oxidation is a primary factor in telomere shortening, and that telomeres do not shorten at a fixed linear rate with age, but instead shorten at varying rates in response to different environments, as a consequence of increased oxidation.
Antioxidants are the body's basic tool for clearing cells of free radicals created by oxidation. Regenorex™ contains safe doses of powerful antioxidants in order to protect cells from premature aging as a result of stress, and to slow the damage to telomeres caused by normal oxidation over time.
3. Multivitamin Use and Aging
The role of multivitamins in maintaining basic health and supporting immune system function is well established, but this study found that women who used antioxidant-rich multivitamins had telomeres that averaged 8% longer than women who did not take multivatimins at all, correlating to a difference in telomere length comparable to individuals 16 years apart in age. The study also found that multivitamin users had significantly longer telomeres than women who relied solely on eating antioxidant rich foods, suggesting that the micronutrients in multivitamins were more easily absorbed over long periods of time than comparable micronutrients in food.
